how has Aids managed to tear apart Africa-Uganda

As of now, the world is still troubled on how AIDS/HIV has managed to escape the modern day scientist, scientists everywhere are locked in the battle to come up with a definite cure of AIDS, this race is on going and there seems no end in sight.

Here in Africa,I will dwell on Uganda, every one has come up with all sorts of cures, being in a society that believes so much in witch crafty many for long thought some one malicious had cast a bad spell on them and this exacerbated the

Boycotting the R-Word

I have heard a lot of people talking lately about boycotting the movie, “Tropic Thunder” due to its derogatory approach to people with intellectual disabilities. However, I am not in favor of a boycott for a couple of reasons: first, because I think they all too often miss the point and are rarely (if ever) successful.  (Does anyone really think Carter ended the cold war by boycotting the 1980 summer games?)  That being said, I do think there is a level of disrespect rampant in our society directed toward a great many individuals.  Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities are often the target of this disrespect (though not the only target).

Reaching Out

Too often people are afraid to touch people out in the margins. Physical touch by people in the margins is considered dirty or unhealthy. I often wonder what Jesus’ disciples thought about His habit of touching the “unclean.” My friend Frank has cerebral palsy and, as a result, drools uncontrollably. Frank doesn’t feel the drool coming out of his mouth so his aid or I will prompt him to wipe his mouth. Frank carries a small towel for just this purpose. Even with a little assistance Frank still ends up with a large drool spot on his shirt and with his hands covered in drool. Everyday that Frank enters my class he does his best to smile (which is difficult as a result of the CP and missing his front teeth) and then offers his twisted drool covered hand for me to shake.

"Lord, Where is my Creativity?"

If your a designer like me, you may experience this question very often, “Lord, Where is my creativity?”

As a designer you are usually required and expected to have a good, creative, and imaginative mind, but that’s not always every designers strong area. Yes, sometimes you have a splurge of creativity flowing in your brain whenever your pushed or under pressure working on a project, but what about when your project is done, and there is no project…..what would you do then to spark your creative flow?

Idea Round-Up (AlphachimpStudio, Flickr)A study recently conducted by several non-profit groups, including CompassPoint Nonprofit Services and Idealist.org, entitled Ready to Lead? Next Generation Leaders Speak Out, has left nonprofit managers a little uneasy as how how to attract young, enthusiastic workers to management-level positions in their organizations.

A Rant Against Homelessless

I hope mercy will be extended to me as a stump and bump along with my first blog. It has been my desire for some time to contribute in some way on a number of issues concerning deliberate misconceptions set forth by conservatives and those who are encouraged by them. Homelessness is one of those issues. Homeless people have been labeled as drug-addicts, drunks, or just plain lazy. The Reagan Administration in 1987 instituted budget cuts that virtually put disabled veterans from the VA hospitals and those being cared for in nursing homes onto the streets because they were required to show financial need to receive care and those who were not put out received reduced care. This is from an ideology that glorifies the military.

Poverty and Homelessness Ongoing Challenges/Strategies

The good news.  The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (www.hud.gov) lastest report indicates a decline in homelessness across the country.  The Planning and Development Network's website asks "if this is too good to be true?"  Why the skepticism?

Tired of Suffering?

Suffering is one topic that is constantly on our minds. People everywhere seem to be suffering. We see it in foreign places, in our own neighborhoods, and even in ourselves at times. And when we encounter these situations they seem soo hard; sometimes they even seem hopeless.

But did God create us to be a hopeless people?

ambassadors of the Kingdom

here is a great quote that i found on the God's Politics blog written by Jin S. Kim, who is the pastor of the Church of All Nations in Minneapolis, MN.

"As "ambassadors" of God's kingdom, we Christians ought to be the leaders in racial reconciliation, for "they will know we are Christians by our love." Instead, we lag behind a secular society in getting along, even among so-called Christians! That the segregated church in America is patterned after a racist society, and not the other way around, is an indictment of our life together and cause for national repentance and revival. How did we get here, and how do we move forward?"
